Le Centre Nos Pilifs
Our Mission Project for the month of August is “Le Centre Nos Pilifs,” a local school for autistic children. Currently they have approximately 50-60 students enrolled, and the waiting list is very long.
Children diagnosed with autism face enormous challenges in leading what we would call a normal day-to-day life. Not only do they have difficulties with social interaction, communication, and cognitive skills, but motor skills are also affected. Simply grasping an object with the palm of their hand, rotating their wrist, as well as eye-hand coordination are skills that are hard for them to master. It takes time and patience and the proper equipment.
This month’s project will enable Nos Pilifs to purchase educational toys which will help the children to attain a certain autonomy by improving their fine motor skills, manual dexterity, as well as their skills in reading, writing and mathematics The best way to achieve this is through constructive play. Being able to grasp these skills builds their confidence and gives them such a wonderful sense of achievement. Nos Pilifs has provided us with a wish list of possible toys to be purchased. The list was too long to include here, but a copy will be available in the Fellowship Hall and on the bulletin board.
Even the tiniest step forward is a major victory. So please consider making a financial donation for this local project. If you wish to be eligible for a tax exemption (donations of 40€ or more), please contact Nancy Evans. Thank you so much for your generosity!
